The countryโ€™s premier dance companyย Ballet Philippinesย closes its successful 44thย season, themedย IllumiNATION, with an exceptional repertoire of breathtaking performances inย The Art of Dance.

ย

Showing at theย RCBC Theaterย onย February 14 to 16ย andย 21 to 23ย atย 3pmย for the matinees andย 8pmย for the evening shows, this highly anticipated season-ender presents a mixed repertoire of new and revived works from notable guest choreographers, showcasing Ballet Philippinesโ€™ acclaimed mastery of both classical and contemporary ballet.

ย

The Art of Danceย takes on varied dance forms in a stunning display of technique, talent, contrast, and artistry, presenting two different showsโ€”Dayย (matinee shows) andย Nightย (evening shows). Essentially taking into consideration each programโ€™s target audience, both shows offer completely differentโ€”yet equally-enthrallingโ€”experiences for its viewers.ย

ย

Intended for audiences of any age group, the matinee show lineup includes a new contemporary production by company member Gillianne Gequinto; the neo-ethnic presentationย Moslem,ย by Agnes Locsin;ย Rurok, a modern featureย by Alden Lugnasin; a new street dance piece by company member Edana Labitoria; new choreography by Artistic Director Paul Alexander Morales to National Artist Lucio San Pedroโ€™s โ€œRecuerdosโ€, and the classicย Black Swan Pas De Deux, as restaged by Victor Ursabia.

Directed specifically for more mature audiences are the gala shows, featuring the classical balletย Paquita, as restaged by Victor Ursabia;ย Muybridge Frames, a modern production by Denisa Reyes, a new neo-classical pieceย by Brando Miranda; andย Zebra, a contemporary feature by Ernest Mandap, a BP alumnus who has been based in France for the past 22 years. Mandap describes the piece as โ€œa representation of tolerance and unity.โ€

Indeed, with such a diverse mix of dance genres in Ballet Philippinesโ€™ grand season finale, thereโ€™s no questioningย Southeast Asiaโ€™s longest-running professional dance companyโ€™sย mastery and passion forย The Art of Dance.
