Awra Briguela received overwhelming support from her university’s student council following the backlash and criticism she experienced over wearing her choice of school uniform.

On October 7, Awra reshared the student council’s official statement on TikTok and Instagram, where they took a stance against gender discrimination.
“Recently, we’ve become aware of the backlash surrounding Awra Briguela’s post that showed her choice of uniform. In this context, it is important to note that UE is committed to fostering an inclusive atmosphere, where LGBTQIA+ members are respected, and students are permitted to wear opposite-sex attire of their choice and uniforms,” the statement read, emphasizing that everyone deserves a safe and inclusive environment, free from discrimination based on their identity and self-expression.
The council also strongly condemned “unjust and hateful comments” targeting a student’s appearance, gender identity, or self-expression.
The statement continued, “We remain steadfast in our mission to create a safer, more inclusive space for ALL UE WARRIORS, regardless of gender. ”
“Our goal is to cultivate an environment where every student feels valued and free to express themselves without fear of judgment and harassment,” it added, highlighting that they would be proactive in confronting discriminatory behavior and promoting inclusivity and respect.
After re-posting the statement, Awra shared a photo of herself appearing teary-eyed.
In late September, the young actress began sharing photos and clips of herself on her social media wearing her choice of school uniform. However, these posts garnered mixed reactions from social media users.
Earlier this year, Awra celebrated her father’s completion of his Master of Business (MBA) degree. Now, she is pursuing her own goals as a student at the University of the East (UE).
