In the 2010s, we loved seeing our favorite Wattpad series transform into popular romantic-comedy films like “She’s Dating the Gangster” and “Diary ng Panget.” This year, “Ang Mutya ng Section E” is taking the internet by stormโcapturing the attention of dedicated Wattpad readers, fans, and first-time viewers who are eager to see where the show will take them next.

Written by Filipino author Lara Flores (Eatmore2behappy) on Wattpad, this romantic-comedy series is definitely the next Gen Z show that everyone should tune in to!
Do you still need some convincing? Here are the five reasons why “Ang Mutya Ng Section E” is worth the hype:
1. It stays true to the Wattpad adaptation
Weโve seen many Wattpad books adapted into films or series, and in the process, loyal readers and fans have developed high expectations for how their favorite stories will be brought to life. Naturally, fans hope the adaptation stays true to the original material as much as possible.
Thankfully, “Ang Mutya Ng Section E” is not steering away from its source. Theodore Boborol, the show’s director, has assured fans that the project is worth investing time inโthanks to the impeccable acting performances of its lead cast, headlined by Andres Muhlach, Ashtine Olviga, and Rabin Angeles.
2. The characters’ chemistry is ON POINT!
The show continues to attract more viewers with the characters’ natural onscreen chemistry.
While Andres’ surname rings a bell for mainstream viewers (as he is the son of Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez), he is making a name for himself by portraying Mark Keifer WatsonโSection E’s determined class president, who initially has a mean streak toward the female protagonist. Meanwhile, Rabin stands out as Yuri Hanamichiโnot just for his bright red hair, but for his mysterious persona and youthful charm.
While both lead actors grab everyone’s attention by the collar, every character shines on their own and blends well with the showโfrom the unruly boys of Section E to all the side characters that make Higher Value International School close to our hearts.
For those who are currently watching, are you “Team Keifer” or “Team Yuri”?
3. The female lead is a dominating force in the show
Before Ashtine made her mark among viewers as the Gen Z “It Girl,” the rising young actress first debuted as a P-pop idol. She was a former member of the girl group UGG and had also been part of the supergroup P-pop Generation and the girl group LITZ.
While she may be a new face to most viewers, her striking performance as Jasper Jean “Jay-jay” Mariano proves that she is a force to be reckoned with! With her natural wit and convincing acting, she brings justice to Jay-jay’s bold personality.
While Jay-Jay gets into trouble throughout the show, she teaches young female viewers valuable lessons: to stand her ground when sheโs right, take accountability when sheโs wrong, and remain fearlessly genuine and authentic in a setting where masking emotions and pleasing others to be considered acceptable are the norm.
4. It reminds us of high school
For the older Gen Z’s, the millennials, and the younger batch of audiences, this show brings back a sense of nostalgia for all those years spent in high school: the fun moments, the chaos and trouble that comes in action, and the unadulterated kilig from those who make our heart skip a beat.
No wonder this youth-oriented show is an instant hit among viewers. Yes, it can get clichรฉ (and our high school moments can be cringy as well), but it reminds us of a part of who we used to be and, somehow, creates a longing to go back in time to relive moments when school was the biggest priority.
5. It sets the standard for future coming-of-age shows in the Philippines
With this project getting unprecedented amounts of success and virality, there’s so much to look forward to and expect in the future of Philippine romantic comedies and coming-of-age shows.
If there’s one thing that makes “Ang Mutya ng Section E” shine, itโs how the show embraces the chaos without being too pretentious or flashy. While itโs far from perfect, itโs the kind of series youโll want to rewatch once itโs overโand one that will stay with you even as the years pass.
Are you feeling the FOMO? Don’t miss out on “Ang Mutya ng Section E” every Friday on Viva One.
