A 5-Step Guide to Cosplay Mania
Hey everyone! This millennium truly proved to be the best time for geeks to be around. To be called a geek or a nerd is never an insult–it became a culture of like-minded individuals with an appreciation of the fictional world.
And what event holds the banner for being the grandest and geekiest? COSPLAY MANIA!
If you missed this year’s event, don’t fret! There’s still next year! What you need to do now is to study this 5-step guide to have the best Cosplay Mania experience ever!
A 5-Step Guide to Cosplay Mania
1. Join the fever! Try cosplaying!
Even if you’re not going to join the competition, there’s nothing wrong with getting a bit dressed up for the convention. This is the time of the year to BE your beloved characters. No one will judge you. Try to mix and match pieces in your closet if you’re on a budget and who knows? Maybe you can come up with your very own casual cosplay. My friend (WIM photographer Hera Ydulzura) and I decided to do some “effortless” cosplay by doing the said technique, walking in as a Typical Camera Club Schoolgirl and a Fem!Dean Winchester from Supernatural.
2. Save up!
If you’re the ultimate fangirl/fanboy, this event will make you weep if you have a low budget. One tip is to determine which aspects of the convention you’re interested to go to and buy the ticket that will allow you to fulfil those geeky needs. Fortunately, tons of products are on sale at the booths, so you’ll most likely find the trinkets you want from any fandom in existence! Check out some of the shops below!
3. The Schedule and the Map is your friend.
Make sure you check out the layout guide and schedule a day before, so that you don’t miss out on the programs that you want to experience. For example, this year has been big! Big names in the cosplaying industry like Reika, Kaname, Orochi X, Aya Ikeda, Vampy and so much more had Meet-and-Greet sessions; hundreds of booths filled with geek gear and merch are all over the place; awesome photobooths and activity areas for the complete experience–work your way around them with the help of the schedule guides and map. But then again, if you wanna go all spontaneous, that’s fine, too!
