On November 12, the non-profit organization officially welcomed Philippine Eagle #30, the first eaglet hatched by the foundation after a successful nine-month operation.

“We are introducing the newest member of our family,” the post shared. “We could not thank enough all the individuals and organizations behind this collaborative success.”

According to their website, Chick #30 was hatched at the National Bird Breeding Sanctuary (NBBS) in Eden, Toril through a “help out” method. This method involves assisted piping through air space areas of the egg where the membrane is unattached, ensuring that suffocation from excess carbon buildup doesn’t occur during the hatching period.

This chick is a successful product of a “cooperative artificial insemination” with the help of proud parents Pinpin, a female eagle who naturally incubated the egg for a week, and Sinag, a male eagle at the Philippine Eagle Center (PEC).

Domingo Tadena, NBBS Facility Manager and PEF’s conservation breeding expert, stated that this event is a significant milestone for Philippine Eagle conservation.

“This hatching marks a historic first for the NBBS, occurring just months after its establishment,” Domingo said.

He added: “It proves that with cutting-edge technology, cross-cultural collaboration, and unwavering dedication, we can create new hope for the Philippine Eagle.”

Organized in 1987, the Philippine Eagle Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the endangered Philippine Eagle and its rainforest habitat.

The Philippine Eagle, named as the national bird of the Philippines in 1995, is now considered a critically endangered species in the country. It is also regarded as one of the rarest birds in the world, with an estimated population of fewer than 500 individuals.
