On October 16, the travel and food website updated its “Top 100 Filipino Foods” list, with inasal na manok taking the top spot as the best-rated Filipino dish. It has a rating of 4.5 out of five.

The popular meat dish is described as a “Filipino grilled chicken dish which originated in Bacolod and became the signature dish of the entire Visayas region.”

“It employs various chicken cuts marinated in a mixture of vinegar and numerous spices such as lemongrass, garlic, and ginger,” the description continued. “During grilling, the meat is brushed with the annatto-infused oil which provides the chicken with an appetizing golden color and a unique peppery flavor. The dish is usually served alongside annatto-flavored garlic rice and spiced vinegar.”

The popular food guide also recognized chicken inasal as an important cultural property in Bacolod City in 2022. Lechon and Leche Flan also made it to the top two and top three spots on the list, respectively.

In 2022, chicken inasal was also included in TasteAtlas’ 50 Best Chicken Dishes worldwide, ranking fifth out of 50 chicken dishes. Last September, TasteAtlas released a list of the worst Filipino dishes. Balut was declared the worst Filipino dish, earning a rating of 2.7 out of five.
