Singapore is known globally for being one of the most efficient countries, especially when it comes to going around the city. The Lion City has such a sprawling, efficient public transportation network that it’s also highly-recommended for solo travel. However, when you’re visiting a country for the first time, there’s always a learning curve.
So, if you’re planning to visit Singapore for the first time, here are a few things that will make your first visit easier and more convenient.
1. Arrange a private airport transfer before you arrive.
While it is easy to get around in Singapore, sometimes the last thing you want to do after a flight is to learn how to navigate a new place. So, if you just want to head to your hotel after your flight without the hassle, we recommend you arrange a private transfer for your arrival.
Klook offers a variety of private transfers from the airport to the city and vice versa. It’s also easy to book. Just choose the date of your arrival, input your flight details, choose the type of car according to how many you are in your group, and everything should go smoothly.
When we booked our private transfer with Klook, the operator contacted us before our flight, and when we got to the arrival hall with all our luggage, our driver was already right there waiting with our name on a sign.
And if you want to explore Jewel first before getting out of the airport, you can also let them know during booking so that the driver can allot time for you to go around and explore!
It was super hassle-free and extra convenient, and we’d highly recommend it especially for first-timers or big groups traveling to Singapore.

2. Book a hotel near MRT stations.
Getting a hotel near an MRT station will let you go around the city in the easiest and most convenient way possible. There’s an MRT station almost everywhere in Singapore, and they’re all connected! So, if you stay near a station, it’s easier to navigate the city, especially on your sightseeing days.

3. Prepare for lots of walking.
Yes, lots and lots of walking. Most tourist spots in Singapore also require a lot of walking around, like Universal Studios or Gardens by The Bay.
So, prepare for your trip with comfy walking-friendly shoes, light clothing, and a portable water bottle to keep you hydrated. We’d also recommend you get a portable fan because it can get very humid in Singapore.
4. Get ready to go cashless!
One mistake we did on our previous trip to Singapore was bringing too much cash. To our surprise, a lot of stores and restaurants in Singapore only accept cashless and contactless payments! In preparation for your upcoming Singapore trip, feel free to still bring a little bit of cash for the small stalls or stores you might find along the way, but be prepared to just tap your card everywhere. Yes, even most, if not all, hawkers accept cashless payments nowadays.

5. Book activities in advance.
On peak days, the queue for tickets can get super long. Book your tickets in advance so you can go straight to the entrance! No need to wait in long ticketing lines.
Book tickets to famous spots such as Universal Studios, Gardens by The Bay, or the ArtScience Museum on Klook so that you only have to bring out the app for scanning when you enter. It’s super convenient and will even make you feel like a VIP.
