There’s a chance that P-Pop Kings SB19 will get nominated for the Grammy Awards for their smash hit single “Gento” after the song was approved for entry to the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” category!
Sony Music Philippines on Friday, October 13, dropped the surprising announcement on social media together with a “For Your Grammy Consideration” poster featuring the members of the boyband and quotes about the song from different publications.
“A’TIN!!!! Mag ingay!!!! SB19’s GENTO is an approved entry to the GRAMMY’s,” the music label’s post read. “Share until it gets to the voting members of the Recording Academy before Oct 20.”
“Gento” was released as part of the group’s “PAGTATAG!” EP and quickly became a dance craze on Tiktok not just among Filipinos but Korean idols as well such as Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, ENHYPEN’S Jungwon, 2NE1’S Minzy, CRAVITY’S Hyeongjun & Taeyoung, LAPILLUS’ Yue & Chanty, and many more.
The song also landed at number 8 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart last June. Prior to that, SB19, which consists of members Pablo, Stell, Ken, Justin, and Josh, made history as the first Southeast Asian and Filipino act to be nominated in the Billboard Music Award’s Top Social Artist category in 2021. They were also the first Filipino act to make it to Billboard’s Top Social 50 Artists in 2020.
Grammy nominees will be announced on November 10, 2023.
