7 Questions I Have After Watching the ‘Star Wars IX’ Teaser Trailer

Before we start, let me just say that I am a huge fan of Star Wars. Or at least I was. I grew up with the original trilogy and fell absolutely in love with it. The second trilogy came out during my early teenage years, so I still thought it was good because Hayden was such a cutie. (Plus, Ewan McGregor: hello!) And then the beginning of another new trilogy came out when I was a mom. While I wasn’t (and still am not) exactly a big fan of it, my daughter seems to love it. In fact, she treats it the same way I treat the original trilogy, so that’s good enough for me.

Now, after about a year of waiting, a teaser trailer for ‘Star Wars IX’ has been released. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it here:

Now that you’ve seen it, I have got a few questions that is actually making me super excited for the ninth installment in the ‘Star Wars’ saga.

7 Questions I Have After Watching the ‘Star Wars IX’ Teaser Trailer

Who is the Skywalker they are referring to in the title?

Star Wars IX 6

The teaser trailer has revealed what the ninth installment will be called. Surprisingly, it’s ‘Rise of the Skywalker’. This bears one important question: WHICH FREAKING SKYWALKER? Right now, there are only two Skywalkers left (that we know of): mother and son Leia and Kylo. I definitely don’t think it’s going to be Leia, so is it going to be Kylo? I’m not sold on that, either. Maybe they’re talking about Luke, seeing as how you can hear his voice in the trailer. Will he be resurrected or simply play a big part in another form?

Orrrrr (and this is more likely, in my opinion), is it – surprise! – Rey?!? Yes, yes. Kylo forced some story on her (and on us), claiming that she’s actually no one of importance with parents of no importance, but I’m still convinced that she actually is important. I don’t see how they can make her a Skywalker by blood, but maybe ‘Skywalker’ will become a term for people who bring balance to the Force? A bit over-reaching, but I read a lot of articles online and netizens have shoved this theory into my head.

Why is Rey wielding the Skywalker lightsaber?

Star Wars IX 1

On that note, in the beginning of the trailer, we see Rey looking all bad-ass as she whips out a lightsaber… but not just any lightsaber. It’s the blue lightsaber of the Skywalkers: Anakin used it. Luke used it. And now Rey is using it. PLEASE EXPLAIN. And also, did you see her flip in front of that TIE fighter like the bad-ass that she is? That’s no regular person born from nobodies, people. Mark my words.

Will Kylo change his ways?

Star Wars IX 2

Judging from the teaser trailer, there are chances that he won’t. After all, he’s coming after Rey in a TIE fighter. We also see him battling what seems to be a Resistance fighter in the teaser trailer. Plus, his helmet is being restored at one point in the teaser trailer, as well. Honestly, I don’t even know if I want Kylo to become a good guy. Thoughts?

Will we see a lot of Lando Calrissian?

Star Wars IX 3

Probably my favorite part in the teaser trailer: seeing Lando Calrissian flying the Millennium Falcon. This matters because I LOVE Lando and I MISS Lando. We haven’t seen him since the original trilogy and the fact that he’s flying the Millennium Falcon, which he used to own before he lost it to Han Solo, is sending chills up and down my spine.

How is Emperor Palpatine still alive?

The last time we saw Palpatine (okay, not the last time since the last time would technically be in the Hayden Christensen trilogy, but you know what I mean), Darth Vader picked him up and threw him over a railing down a shaft into nothingness. However, at the end of the teaser trailer, his unmistakable evil laughter can be heard as the screen goes dark. Why? How? Is he the “greatest evil” that J.J. Abrams said the heroes would face? If so, how did that happen? If not, why is his laughter in the teaser trailer?? I’m gonna go ahead and guess that he is indeed alive, especially since he laughs right after Luke says “No one is ever really gone” and the gang is staring at what seems to be remnants of the Death Star.

How hard will we cry every time Leia appears on-screen?

Star Wars IX 5

At 60 years old, Carrie Fisher passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest in 2016. However, some of the footage that they shot of her for the previous two films will apparently be making it into the new film. I teared up just seeing her hug Rey in the teaser trailer. How much more in the actual movie? ๐Ÿ™

Will this really be the last ‘Star Wars’ movie based on the Skywalkers?

Obviously, this isn’t going to be the last ‘Star Wars’ movie, seeing as how spin-offs and such have already been made. However, will this really be the last Skywalker-based movie? After Luke and Leia in the original trilogy, Anakin in the Hayden trilogy (yes, I’m sticking to how I call it), and Kylo in the latest trilogy; will this really be the last ‘Star Wars’ movie based on their family? Or will there be another surprise trilogy later on down the line? Place your bets!

Regardless of whether it is or not, the future of ‘Star Wars’ still looks bright – for the new generation, anyway. Without the original heroes, I’m still undecided as to how to feel about it all.
