Theย Philippine National Railways (PNR) may resume its Manila-Naga route by December 15, according to a report on the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
At present, the trains are pending final inspection by transportation officials to guarantee the trainโs safety and reliability. A couple of inspections have been already done by PNR officials of the line and a final inspection is set soon.
Acting PNR manager Joseline Geronimo expressed that when this service resumes, it is expected to lessen traffic jam in Metro Manila specially during the Christmas season.
At present, PNR has six trains. For the Manila-Naga route, they “will use a 300-seatย trainย and the 83-seat Kogane tourist train that charges a fare of at least P500 per passenger.”
Aย P120-million hybrid electric train has been inaugurated for PNR but still “pending further test runs and clarification of legal issues, such as accountability in case of problems.”
