Sam’s Pizza Restaurant: Olongapo’s Best-Kept Secret for Square Pizza, Food and Fun!
In Olongapo, there is a pizza chain that has garnered popularity for over 38 years with its delicious square pizza. It was also one of the “pizza craze” innovators in Olongapo back in the mid-70s that helped push the demand for pizza all over the country. The name of this renowned restaurant is Sam’s Pizza – one of Olongapo’s best-kept secrets!
ย
ย
During the mid-70s,ย Olongapo City saw the rise of pizza parlors within the city. Olongapo being an American naval base, the rise was caused by the growing number of Vietnam War U.S. troops stationed in Olongapo who were looking for pizza. This growth fully bloomed during the 80’s when the competition among these establishments was at an all-time high. Sam’s Pizza was among the pioneers of this pizza craze when its first branch was put up by Mr. Sam del Rosario in July 15, 1976. Ever since then, Sam’s Pizza has already “served over 4 million customers and 2 million square pizzas to date”.

Fellow WIMer Raffy surprisingly spotted his college friend having fun at Sam’s Pizza, as well. Cool!

This treasured establishment is a favorite place among Olongapo residents and Subic tourists to have good ‘ol fun with family or friends in. Not only will you enjoy their reasonably-priced menu of delicious square pizza, pasta dishes, salads and appetisers here; you’ll also get to sing along with the bands and their energetic live musical entertainment!

ย
The guest band during our visit was the “Basic Mode Band” who performed song requests from the Sam’s Pizza diners.ย Ms. Janette Suguitan, Mr. Sonny Condez and Ms. May Icban, the lead singers of the band, altogether brought the house down as they rocked Sam’s Pizza with “Wrecking Ball”, “Ulan” by Aegis, “Stickwitu” by Pussycat Dolls and more. Indeed, rakrakan na!

Sam’s Pizza Bestsellers and the Menu
We got to try out two of their best-selling pizzas: the “Taco-Looking Pizza” and the “Sam’s Special”. Along with them, we also had a heavy plate of Sam’s Meaty Spaghetti, the crispy Chicken in a Wicket, and good ‘ol glasses of Cali Shandy, Strawberry Shake and San Mig Light.
ย
MAMA MIA. This is the “Taco-Looking” pizza, which is covered with vegetables, bits of tomatoes, onions and everything found in a taco ๐
Their self-titled signature pizza- the Sam’s Special ๐ It’s best eaten with light beer!
ย
My favorite among the dishes would be the Sam’s Special, though. It just looks so appetizing with all of the sausages, ham, onion, mushrooms, and ย cheese blend grouped into a good-looking square pizza. It may look small, but its dough is so thick that eating three slices is already extremely filling!

CHICKSARAP! The Chicken in a Wicket of Sam’s Pizza, which is available for P250 (half) and P470 (whole).
