PBA All Star Weekend Closes with a SLAM!
The highlight of the PBA All Star Weekend was the game between the Gilas Pilipinas versus PBA select team yesterday.
The Gilas Pilipinas team is having practices as preparation for FIBA World every Monday at Ynares Gym Pasig while the PBA select team was just announced a few weeks ago.
With Coach Tim Cone handling the All-Star team and Coach Chot Reyes handling the national team, it was indeed a match-up not just for the players but for the superstar coaches, as well.
Despite the All-Stars’ lack of preparation for the big game, Coach Tim Cone said that they did really well in their defense and that is also their way of helping the National Team prepare for the FIBA World Cup in Spain. Coach Chot Reyes also commended the 16-time championship Coach for being able to test the National Team’s defense.
The crowd went wild when Gilas Pilipinas ran past the national team with as many as 18 points, but closed to a score of 101-93.
Gary “El Granada” David exploded with 15 points and was named Most Valuable Player of the All-Stars Game.
But the brightest highlight of the PBA All Star Weekend was the much awaited Dance-Off!
Gary David of Gilas Pilipinas is recently enjoying his stint for Celebrity Dance Showdown on TV5 and will be battling in the Finals with Precilla Meirelles. He then led the Gilas Pilipinas Team for their Dance-Off presentation along with San Mig Coffee Star Marc Pingris.
The National Team players took center court and performed their own version of Whoops Kiri, The Fox and a finale by Junemar Fajardo with his rendition of Frozen’s Let It Go.
The All-Star Team also showcased their dancing prowess and did their version of I Love Rock and Roll lip synched by Marc Barocca while Big Man Joe Devance did some booty shaking. They also did their version of the ever so popular Whoops Kiri.
All-Stars took home the cash prize of Php50,000 for the Dance Off while the Gilas team got Php100,000 for winning the basketball game.
The 2014 PBA All-Star is just one celebration for the PBA and its fans and I bet we are looking forward to more basketball action soon. The FIBA World, perhaps?
