Gone are the days when geeks stayed at home just geeking out on their favorite games or TV shows. We are now living in an era where there are a lot of conventions being held for geeks with the same interests, such as the ManiPopCon or The Manila Pop Culture Convention, which was held from November 16-17 at the Solaire Tent in Pasay City.
6 Activities that Made ManiPopCon the Ultimate Playground for Geeks
6. Games
There was no shortage of games for geeks and gamers to play at the ManiPopCon. There was a Laro sector, for example, where you could choose to play various card games from Dungeons and Dragons to tabletop games and other collectible card games.
There was also a Cignal booth for tournaments for fans of Mobile Legends, Tekken 7, and DOTA VTR, where they could win prizes and gear – a real #winwin. There were tournaments for Gold Rush 2019 and The Conclave epic adventures, too.
5. Shopping
There was a Concourse de Geek sector at the event along with various event partners and sponsors booths. There were geek items worth checking out, including Funko Pops, T-shirts, comic books, and collectible card items. There was also an artist alley selling geek items from celebrities items, as well as 70s and 80s displays and memorabilia.
4. Connecting
ManiPopCon was not just a convention for geeks to have fun in, but also a place where you could meet and get to know fellow geeks! According to one of the producers, Marco Aventajado. “We’re hoping for a ‘cross-pollination’ of geekdom, so that the individual geekdom communities will grow”.
3. Photo Ops
For the best documentation of the event, there were mini sculptures and tons of Instagram-worthy spots there, making it a delight for geeky photographers. You could even take fun photos with life-sized superhero sculptures at the event.
2. New Discoveries
ManiPopCon also proved to be a great venue to learn more about other levels of geekdom. All you had to do was roam around the booths and participate in the fun activities that each sector had prepared for the attendees.
1. Bonding
The best thing about ManiPopCon was that you could bring your family and friends with you!
According to Aventejado, “While ManiPopCon is mainly an event for geeks by geeks, we have made it family-friendly. This event was something I have always wanted to do because I want to expose my kids to these enjoyable activities and make them see that there are so many fun things to do away from their gadgets. I grew up playing board games such as Monopoly, Game of Life and Game of the Generals. I have such fond memories and picked up a lot of life lessons, I want my kids to experience that, too.”
Did you get to go to ManiPopCon? What was the best part for you?
