We set out on this food trip a couple of weeks ago. We were on a mission and that mission was to find the best burgers in Butuan City. It was a task for the ultimate foodie and I dared not shy away from the challenge. After all, this deliciously satisfying quest was for those ready to pack in a few more pounds—and for good reason, so I did not mind.
We didn’t make this search complicated. Our approach was pretty straightforward—we were simply out to find the most flavorful burgers in this side of the region, and if they had a cool and hip place, or even the perfect bottle of beer to match, then our votes are on them.
So here it is, in no particular order, we’ve found you some of the best burgers Butuan City has to offer!

5. Fulcrum Coffee
Watergate Centre, J Rosales Ave

Industrial interiors, local brew, good coffee, and flavor packed snacks and burgers—what’s there not to love about this place? Their burgers are first on our list of must-try’s for this particular blog. The juice of the literally beefed-up and spiced up patty just drips down the plate with every bite. And that cheese sauce (ahem, not cheese slice!) gives you more bang for your buck.
If you like your burger packed with flavor and spice (and I mean, who doesn’t?), we’ve found the burger just for you. The sauce that goes along with those fries make the visit a little more special, too. But you know what goes best with burgers and what we liked best about this place? The local beers. We tried Brew Kettle and we loved it. Beers in a coffee shop? We know, we know! Brilliant! This place, what with it being packed almost all the time, seems to be gaining a cult following. Well, with those burgers, they can count me in.
4. Pedro’s
Imadejas Subdivision, Capitol Bon-bon
I am big on the concept of food trucks. Regardless of whether I know if the food is going to be great or not, as long as it’s being served from a food truck, I’m there. When we heard there was going to be one here in Butuan, we just had to give it a go. Extra points for making an effort to make the place a little more comfy and cozy with tables and chairs and even fairy lights at night. I would recommend the Chili Burger and the Duterte Burger for your visit. Their no-frills patty goes well with their secret cheese sauce. You can slather on some sriracha mayo, pair it with beer and good company, and your night is set.
3. Roadtrip
Kinamlutan, Diversion Road
0905 326 8863
When this place opened up, people were skeptic about it. “It’s too far,” they said. But here we are, almost two years later and the place is still almost always packed, thanks to it’s beautiful location, quiet rustic feel, and really really good food. They’re known for their salad and their sizzling steaks, but do try their burgers and you’ll see why I keep going back for them every chance I get. Their burgers are simple but biting into its smoky tasty glory and pairing it with their spicy dynamite cheese sticks…whew! Makes me melt like butter. You can also try to add bacon if you’d like a little extra to an already beautiful burger, but if you ask me, I think it’s pretty darn perfect in its simplicity.
2. R. Kelly Burger and Pizza
T. Guingona St. Near R.Palma
0906-357-2268
This 7-year old burger joint is a local legend for good reason. A definite must try when you’re in the city. The kind of place that’s usually packed, even on rainy days. Their ultra popular burgers include their Grilled Bacon and Cheese burger (bacon and cheese should just get married, really), Double-Double with Cheese (they should call it double trouble if you ask me, considering it’ll make me come back and that won’t help the waistline), Wafu Burger and their Hawaiian Burger.
The secret lies in their patty, that and they’re the only place in the city that cooks your burgers right off the grill. Their house french fries are also my favorite among all I’ve had from all burger joints we’ve tried in Butuan so far. We hear it’s the latest addition to their menu, so yes, definitely get those with your burgers. And if you just want to indulge in sinful chocolate bliss, you have to get ready for their mudshake—they’re pretty scandalous! If you’re a sweet tooth, you’d definitely think that they didn’t go overboard with this drink.
1. Burger Depot
Imadejas Triangle Commercial Complex
0917 799 0054
You know the part in the movies where angels show up and they sing in chorus? When you hear “Aaaaaaaahhh!” in sweet, sweet melodic tune? That’s the sound my inner voice makes whenever I have my first bite of Burger Depot’s Towering Inferno Burger. It’s like having one of those best burgers from a backyard burger cook-out (oooh, now there’s an idea!) made by the neighbor you’d love to hate but can’t because of his darn good burgers.
Double patty with melty cheese (I think I just invented a word there), with bits and slices of jalapeño jammed in there and it immediately took me to some sweet spicy heaven. Plus, come on, those design interiors make you so proud that burger joints like these are starting to pop up in our city (cue in 90’s movie quote “we’re not worthy!”). It’s an inspired concept! One that makes us hope the local food industry will keep pushing the envelope. Two more reasons to visit? Fresh Cucumber Drink. Bacon Wrapped Burger. ‘Nuff said.
So there you have it, our list of must-try burger spots in this side of town. If you’d like to add more to the list or know of other good local eats, give us a shout out, we’d love to try more of those tasty local grubs!
