3 Reasons why you should attend the Guam Live International Music Festival next year
When in Manila was recently invited to attend the Guam Live International Music Festival. We had an incredible time and think you would too! Here are the 3 reasons why you should attend #GuamLive2015:
1.) It’s affordable
At $80 (Php 3,500) for the entire event or $50 (Php 2,200) for a day-pass, tickets are a festival steal. You won’t find a local music festival with the same caliber of a lineup at the same price.
Before you argue that a flight has to be booked and accommodation needs to be covered, hold your breath for a minute: with whispers of a certain local budget airline bidding for flights to Guam starting by early next year, chances are flying to Laboracay would cost you as much as flying to Guam in 2015 (this is not confirmed but according to our sources highly likely to happen soon).
Accommodation needs to be covered, yes, however coming from Manila – or generally from the Philippines – surely you have a relative or friend, or relative of a friend, or friend of a relative living on the island. Someone whose place you can crash at for the festival weekend.
If you don’t have a connection in your network that you can stay with in Guam, the island has affordable hotels of all price categories as well as apartments that can be rented for short stays and be shared with friends.
2. The Lineup
Truth be told, we didn’t know half of the performers of this festival’s lineup.
However, this proved to be the charm of the event: 50% excitement over well-known acts plus 50% surprise for up- and coming artists!
Nothing screams hipster as much as being among the first to discover cool new bands from various countries. And if the unknown is not your cup of tea, fomo- (fear-of-missing-out) worthy headliners most likely will be.
Unlike other festivals, Guam Live offered an assortment of music styles: while the theme of the festival stood true to its location’s roots with reggae & island melodies setting the dominant tone of the two nights, it was nice to listen to a variety of music. Going from rock (Sublime with Rome) to pop (Pia Mia) to pure reggae (Steel Pulse) to indie (Matisyahu), the diversity in genres and bands satisfied a wide range of musical preferences.
With this year marking only the inaugural Guam Live Festival, who knows what next year will bring? We have high hopes that 2015’s lineup won’t fail to excite and surprise us again!
3. Location: Guam
Does this point really require much explanation?
Sure, traveling to Pampanga or the Globe Circuit is convenient for us to attend a festival over a weekend.
But just imagine how amazing it would be to combine a top-notch festival with a vacation on a tropical island destination! An island destination that is part of the US (a.k.a. every Filipino’s shopping paradise), close enough to visit for a quick weekend getaway (flying from Manila to Guam will only take you 3.5 hours) and as exotic, interesting, paradise-like as beautiful Guam?
Yeah we know, pretty hard to beat! Merge the festival weekend with taking advantage of everything this stunning island has to offer: relax at one of several postcard-worthy beaches, enjoy Guam’s water sports, shop to your heart’s content, meet the friendly people and get away for a while without having to travel too far. How to enjoy a Guam trip even more: travel with a group of friends and make some bucket list memories!
Despite the day 2 festival mishaps, if the satisfaction level of the attending crowd – including ours – is an indicator of success, Guam Live can definitely be deemed as one!
The Guam Visitors Bureau plans to establish the festival as a yearly staple experience. We can only support this initiative and when in Manila we hope to return to this beautiful island for an even more exciting sophomore year of the event! Do you want to jam on stage with international rockstars in 2015? We can’t guarantee that you will but what we can guarantee: tons of fun and an unforgettable time at the Guam Live International Music Festival!
