The Department of Education has two main reasons for executing the senior high school program. First of all, the Philippines is the very last country in Asia and one of merely three countries worldwide with a 10-year pre-university cycle. With this, we are left behind alongside Angola and Djibouti. Secondly, a 12-year program is said to be the acknowledged standard for students and professions internationally.

Additionally, they will give away vouchers to Junior High School completers, mainly to the public high school students, but those coming from private schools may also apply for the voucher program. As stated by DepEd, “Through the Voucher Program, students and their families are able to exercise greater choice in deciding the Senior High School program that is most relevant to their needs and career goals. A certain amount will be subsidized by DepEd to private SHS to offset the cost of tuition.” Read more here.
