Sorry to rain on your cactus parade (ha! pun), but I think this article is misleading in the simplistic way that the hobby and the plants are represented. I know it’s not meant to be in depth and that you probably wrote it to raise a little more awareness, however, I think a little more information and better writing would be good for future owners. I think there should be a part where you at least encourage people to read more about the plants themselves or ask other gardeners for tips because…
#1: Not all succulents evolved the same way, obviously. Some remain small, no matter what the size of your pot, and not all thrive regardless of pot size. They also require different conditions to remain healthy, and, since it’s part of your article, to flower– mostly natural light and heat. Some don’t like too much sun because they can burn.
#2: It DOES entail commitment to maintain a plant, even something as low maintenance as a succulent. Overwatering and poor lighting conditions wouldn’t make them last long, and contrary to what a lot of people think, many don’t make great indoor plants, unless there is still a lot of light.
#3: Some are poisonous and can’t be used as moisturizers. You should have been a little more specific, like that’s usually for Aloe vera, and on that note…
#4: Again, I get why you wrote this and I as an amateur hobbyist, it’s nice to know that people will get to explore the joys of gardening. But as far as articles go, the information here is reeeeeeally sparse, even for something that is supposed to be light reading. And lastly, the plant in picture number 3 looks unhealthy.
