 Phily's

 Phily’s Diner

Phily’s was founded in 2009 with a goal to offer meals that are affordable and filling for a college student. One of the values they uphold is the openness to the suggestions of their customers. Because they always hear out suggestions and special requests, they have continuously innovated their menu.

Pearl Harbor is one of their bestsellers. It remains to be an unparalleled beef-and-rice dish in the cafeteria. It is a mix of rice, beef, egg, vegetables, Japanese nori and Japanese mayonnaise. It’s the perfect testimony of beauty in diversity: the ingredients seem to be so unrelated from each other, yet they taste so good once they are cooked together. You have to taste it to believe it.

The Snack Shack in Area 2

Snack Shack redefines what burgers and street food are. Its burgers are juicy, filling, and so much worth the line and the price. No wonder it attracts crowds even outside Diliman. There’s a lot you could tell about a foodie spot just by listening in on conversations while waiting in line. Some customers are die-hard fans from its opening. Some are new customers who had to drive for an hour or two. Some are students computing how many minutes they’d be late for class.

With all the things I hear while waiting in line, it’s safe to say that the lines are long. Sometimes, you might change upon a seemingly good day with only three people in line, but  that could be because some people may have ordered through the hotline in advance. Snack Shack cooks the patties on the spot, so you’ll be sure to get them fresh.

But then again, the burgers are worth the wait. My friends and I are such huge fans of Snack Shack, we occasionally line up even before it opens.

Ate Vickie’s Siomai and Pantea from UP Arki

If there’s one thing better than siomai, it’s siomai with itlog pugo inside it! Drizzled with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili, the ‘Arki siomai’ is one of those genius treats you won’t be able to get enough of.

They also serve Pandan Tea, or Pantea for short. Ice-cold, sweet, and milky, the Pantea  is the perfect relief from the hot walks around the campus.
