ย Palawan: World’s Best Island!

Aaaaaahhhhย I love Palawan!ย I feel truly fortunate that I got to visit Palawan 3 times last month and to tell you honestly, I still missย Palawanย everyday!

After hearing aboutย Palawan Govt and Palawan Tourism Council’s recent partnership with AirAsia Philippines, I immediately took advantage of its low promo airfare rates and visitedย Palawan which I missed so dearly for years! I believe I stayed for more than 2 weeks, so I got the chance to get to discover and ย know more about its breathtaking places, friendly people, rich culture, and divine gastronomic gems!

During our trip, we visited a lot or places as well as restos which were recommended by the locals we got to meet. And so after countless foodtrips and burps, here are myย 10 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MUST TRY Dishes in Puerto Princesa!ย

10. Super Creamyย Halo-halo at Noki Nocs Savory House (Rizal Ave. cor. Fernandez St., Puerto Princesa)

– Once you arrive at Puerto Princesa airport, the 1st thing you should do, is hop on a tricycle ( I paid P50 fare for a short 1-3min ride) and tell the driver to take you to Noki Nocs!ย  Once you’re there, order their famous Halo-halo with Ice Cream (P85) and Mais Con Yelo (P75-85)… prepare to be blown away!!! For me, it’s the BEST HALO-HALO in the WORLD! Far different and delicious than the others I’ve tasted around the country. I won’t tell you the secret… you have to try it yourself! I swear!! hehehe

9.ย Tamilok at Kinabuchs Bar & Grill (Rizal Avenue, Puerto Princesa)

Ok ok… I would have to admit that I’m not really a fan of Tamilok (or any kind of worm), but I included it in this list because it’s considered as a popular exotic Palawan delicacy which should be experienced by everyone visiting Palawan. I believe there are a lot of restos who also serve Tamilok but we tried ours at Kinabuchs located along the main road ย (Rizal Avenue).

For exotic lovin’ foodies, another MUST TRY at ย Kinabuchsย would be their Crocodile Sisig!

7.ย Vietnamese Food at Rene’s Saigon (Rizal Ave Ext. Puerto Pricesa)

During our trip, I learned that there are a lot of Vietnamese immigrants living in Palawan. If you’re a fan of Vietnamese food, we recommend you visit the Vietnamese Village or Rene’s Saigon which is nearer the city proper to experience satisfying yet affordable Vietnamese dishes!

6. Crispy Chicken Skin at Ka Inato (San Manuel,ย Puerto Princesa City)

Ka Inato is a popular name when it comes to Chicken Inato (Chicken BBQ) in Puerto Princesa and you’ll surely see a couple of its branches around town. During our visit, it was their Crispy Chicken Skin which really stood out from the rest, that’s why I’ve decided to include it in this list! ย Super super super sarap!

5.ย Hopia at Baker’s Hill (Mitra Rd. Sta. Monica,ย 5300 Puerto Princesa City)

Before my trip to Palawan, I got requests from family and friends to bring home Palawan’s famous Hopia. I got really curious of course, so I did my best to ask locals about it and they all mentioned one name: ย Baker’s Hill Bakeshoppe. Ok Fine! Per box is only around P40, so I bought a lot as my pasalubong! They have a wide variety of Hopia flavors to choose from, but I only bought my favorite Hopiang Monggo!

4.ย Danggit Lamayo

I thought Cebu was the only one famous for danggit, but I was wrong! It was during my trip last month when I got introduced to Palawan’s very own version of Danggit called Danggit Lamayo. The difference? As opposed to the small dried danggit in Cebu, the Danggit Lamayo in Palawan is bigger in size and is marinated before deep fried in oil. Palawenos are very proud of their Danggit, so it’s truly a must order during breakfasts instead of the usual Pinoy Silogs and continental dishes.

3.ย Lechon Kawali at Blue Palawanย (Hidden Beach (turn left at the end of BM Road), Puerto Princesa, Palawan 5300/ย +639178314118)

Oh my…… I don’t know even how to start. Uhhmmmm well, let me go straight to the point: It’s the BEST EFFIN’ Lechon Kawali in the planet! That’s it! I said it! I know that Palawan is famous for their seafood but honestly, I’ve forgotten all about seafood after tasting this! It’s super crunchy yet so tender and the sauce catapults you to palatal paradise! Expect a kilo of these beauties with every order! Best enjoyed with cocktail concoctions made by their resident bartender, Fabio!

They are also very proud of their Kare-Kare and I can’t wait to try it next time!

Blue Palawan…the food here is as great as the place and its people. Had an epic stay here and looking forward to come back! Read about our Blue experience here: Blue Palawan Beach Club: A Wave of Good Vibrations.

2.ย Shabu Shabu Feast at Ipil Suitesย (Rizal Ave.,Ext. Purok Malaya,ย Bancao-Bancao, Puerto Princesa City /ย  (+632) 682-7168, SMART 0908-880.2866 and GLOBE 0917-873.9831)

We enjoyed such a guiltless pleasurable Shabu-Shabu feastย at Ipil Suites! It was one of my most memorable Shabu-Shabu meals ever! It included a variety of fresh greens, seafood, meats and a lot more plus the dining ambiance at Ipil Suites‘ roof top had a superb view and lots of fresh air!

If you’re also looking for a very decent and ย affordable hotel in Puerto Princesa that’s near the main road, I highly recommend Ipil Suites! The photo shown above is only for P1500/night. They also have a hotel in El Nido as well as a private resort island called Ipil Waterfront which is also for rent!

1.ย Honey Nougat at La Terrasseย Restaurant Cafe (Rizal Ave, Puerto Princesa city /tel +63 48 434 17 87 )

When in Puerto Princesa, never ever ever ever leave without experiencing the famous Honey Nougat at La Terrasse Cafe along Rizal Avenue! It tastes heavenly! It may be a bit pricey (around P300+) but I swear… it’s worth every peso! It’s also an ideal pasalubong to bring home but make sure to order it before your flight for it has to stay chilled/frozen. I bought 2 extra bars for my family and they loved it a lot! I think it’s the ULTIMATE PALAWAN DESSERT!
