In celebration of Pride Month, Netflix set out to determine the important role that shows and films play in influencing audiencesโ perception and attitude towards the LGBTQIA+ community. A new survey released by Netflix found that some of the Philippinesโ favorite shows and films are helping to create empathy amongst viewers.
Out of 900+ respondents in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao, 71% of Filipino viewers watched shows and films to better understand the world, and 63% reflected that watching content with LGBTQIA+ characters or themes represented helps them better understand, empathize, and interact with the LGBTQIA+ community.
According to the survey, the following films and shows on Netflix with LGBTQIA+ characters resonated with Filipinos the most recently:

10. Die Beautiful
A Filipino transgender woman’s last wish is to be presented as a different celebrity on each night of her wake.
9. Born Beautiful
After her best friend dies, Barbs starts a new life as a straight man named Bobby, which leads her to Trisha’s ex-boyfriend Michaelangelo, to her own ex-boyfriend Greg, and to a woman claiming she is pregnant with Barbs’ child.
8. 13 Reasons Why
Two weeks after Hannah’s tragic death, Clay finds a mysterious box on his porch with recordings made by Hannah in which she explains the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide.
7. Stranger Things
In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits. As they search for answers, the children unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries.
6. Sex Education

On one day in 1989, 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world.
