I love road trips.
I often try to go on road trips on the weekends to recharge from the stressful work week, to meet new people, and to explore places in the Philippines.
Early in February, my friends and I took a quick road trip to Subic.ย We embarked on this trip early on a Saturday morning so we can beat the weekend traffic and also so we can be in Subic early.
The trip took 3 hours or so but it didn’t feel that long because of the picturesque countryside view we saw along the way. SCTEX, the expressway that connects the metro to Subic, is blanketed by lush trees, which really made the view very relaxing.
It was a trip taken to unwind so we really didn’t intend to try the “adventure activities” in Subic like the treetop adventure and whatnot. We just wanted to chill and hangout.
Once we arrived at our hotel, the Subic Grand Harbour Hotel, we were immediately assisted to check in.
One of the best things about this hotel is its location. Since it is on the Waterfront Road in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, it was very accessible. Moreover, it is situated near the beach.
Although we weren’t allowed to swim, it’s beach view was magnificent – perfect for someone who simply wants to unwind. The room we were given had this view. It was so nice and it was view that you’d love to wake up to every day.
To compensate forย not being allowed to swim in the beach, the hotel has a nice outdoor pool with the view of the beach as well.
After our quick breakfast of scrumptious Pinoy food (we had longganisa, adobo, rice, and two eggs cooked sunny side up), we were so full that we decided to rest for a while in our rooms. We were assisted to our rooms, they areย located on the third floor of the hotel. It came in handy that the hotel has an elevator near the entrance, making any room accessible to guests.
The rooms inย the hotel are cozy and spacious. Our room had two queen-sized beds. The room comes complete with the usual hotel room amenities but it’s best feature, the view of the beach.
We took a short nap and after that, we went outside to enjoy the pool and walk by the beach.
Before doing this, we had late lunch of another gastronomic Filipino fare. Everythingย was just delicious!
On top of theย sinigang na hiponย andย bagnet pinakbet, the most amazing part of the lunch was the dessert.
It’s a feast on the eyes and on the tastebuds. Simple lang pero rock.
Wait, theย crispy pata was also the bomb!
With all the food we ate, it’s reasonable to pay the hotel’s gym a visit.
Running here feels like you’re running outdoors. Just look at that view!
It was almost sunset at that time so walking by the beach was just perfect. If it were with someone you love, it would have been romantic.
After that, we checked out the swimming pool. We chilled at the hotel’s Sunset Grill and the drinks just came perfect. Well, they were strong enough to get you tipsy. LOL.
Aside from booze, Sunset Grill also serves a selection of grilled dishes that is fit to perfection with their own Chefโs signature barbeque sauce served with potato wedges or Java rice.
Like I’ve said previously, the hotel’s location is one of its advantages. Right across the Subic Grand Harbour Hotel is the famous Texas Joe’s. Of course, after a few drinks, who wouldn’t want a feast of fries, ribs, and more booze?
We just crossed the street and we had dinner (and a few drinks) at Texas Joe’s.
Then, we retired for the night.
Sadly, we had to leave early in the morning to go back to Manila. We would have wanted to spend more time by pool, just staring at the beach. Oh well, we’d definitely return later.
At Subic Grand Harbour Hotel, you can indulge in well-appointed Superior, De Luxe Room and Suites providing the comforts of home with amazing view and service from our well trained and accommodating staff.
