I must admit, I am a bit vain. I have been trying to achieve a dapper hairstyle for a while now, and I was surprised to see the answer to my problem at a back alley in Salcedo Village.
A barber shop is, naturally, the masculine version of a salon. But at Back Alley Barber Shop, they know what their customer’s needs are, and their quality of service is so impeccable that you will never want to go to another barber shop at all.
Located along one of the small streets in Makati, Back Alley Barber Shop is your friendly neighborhood barber shop that treats its customers like true gentlemen.
The reception upon entering is a simple little space that boasts of a wood interior design with touches of leather.
Opposite the counter are these artworks that perfectly complement the interior of the shop.
This is the waiting area of Back Alley Barber Shop. The coffee table is filled with artsy books and magazines that will surely catch your attention. Read: Playboy, Banksy, and cursing.
They also have a mini bar/kitchen that serves beer, coffee or tea. Because they offer facials too, they also have a steam fridge in this area where the barbers get hot towels.
This is the only barber shop that I have visited that has a record player. It’s not just for display; it actually plays vinyl records, of which Back Alley has hundreds.
This is the service area of the shop. The seats can be reclined for the facial services that they offer.
The barbers were dressed better than me. I was just wearing a shirt and they were all in long-sleeves and matching neckties.
I got the cut + hungover treatment, which is basically a haircut and facial. It is very refreshing—perfect after a night out.
The products they use are imported and boast of luxury. All these are carefully selected and reviewed before being used in the shop, like the lightweight and sharp samurai scissors and feather razor blades.
Aside from the products that they use for the services, they also sell a variety of pomade and wax to suit your hair product needs.
Back Alley Barber Shop is a hidden gem in Makati and is a place gents should visit to get pampered. After all, a man needs some R & R, too.
